Umemiya Taisha

Umemiya Taisha is a historic shrine dedicated to the gods of sake brewing and of fertility and safe childbirth. Sake barrels line the grounds, and the prestigious main hall was rebuilt in the mid-Edo period. The charming grounds, filled with seasonal flowers, soothe visitors.

・Famous as a Cat Shrine: In recent years, the shrine grounds have become home to many cats, making it a paradise for cat lovers.


・Beautiful Scenery Throughout the Seasons: The shrine has a garden where you can enjoy a variety of flowers throughout the year, including plum blossoms, cherry blossoms, azaleas, and hydrangeas. In particular, the profusion of plum blossoms in spring creates a beautiful landscape.


・Benefits of Fertility and Safe Childbirth: Many women visit the shrine for the custom of stepping over the stone steps within the grounds and receiving birth sand as a talisman.
