Arashiyama is a special and very quiet area of Kyoto, but traveling still makes you want to have a drink. While the area isn't particularly bar-rich, there's a wonderful bar just a two-minute walk from our hotel.

Thule Doux is a long-established bar with over 40 years of history. The bartender's cocktails are authentic yet very reasonably priced.

Bars in Japan range from casual to authentic, but Thule Doux has a relaxed, enjoyable shot bar feel.
I often find myself chatting with the friendly bartender and enjoying the company of the neighbors. This is the perfect place to end an evening in Arashiyama.

The cocktails are great, but they also have a wide selection of whiskeys. I tried a bourbon for the first time. Even if you're not a big fan, they'll help you choose the perfect one, so it's recommended for beginners.

A good bar always has great music, and Thule Doux plays some great music, too. The bar owner is knowledgeable about a wide range of genres, from jazz to pop, and may even be willing to accommodate requests if there are not many customers.
