The Saga Eastern Mausoleum of Emperor Chokei, located in Saga Arashiyama, is the tomb of Emperor Chokei. Emperor Chokei was the 98th emperor (the third emperor of the Southern Court). He reigned from 1368 to 1383.
◇Attractions
・A mysterious emperor: During the Nanboku-cho period, the Southern Court relocated to the mountains of Yoshino (southern Nara Prefecture), leaving few records of his reign. Emperor Chokei's reign or non-reign has been much debated since the Edo period, but in 1926, after an investigation by the Imperial Household Ministry, it was officially recognized. The tomb was designated as such only in the Showa period.
