Takiguchi-ji Temple is a Jodo sect temple in Saga-Arashiyama. Located at the foot of Mt. Ogura, it is surrounded by tranquil beauty and nature.
◇Attractions
・The setting of the Tale of the Heike: This temple is known as the setting for two tragic love stories from the Tale of the Heike: that of Takiguchi Nyudo and Yokobue, and that of Nitta Yoshisada and Koto no Naishi.
・Yokobue's Poetry Monument: It is said that upon leaving Takiguchi-ji Temple, Yokobue, unable to meet Takiguchi Nyudo, cut her finger and wrote a poem on the stone in her own blood. It reads, "Deep in the mountains, deep in my heart, through the bush door, lead me to the true path where you are striving beyond the bush door."
・Nitta Yoshisada's Grave: Takiguchi-ji Temple is where Nitta Yoshisada's wife stole his head after he was beheaded and brought it back, where she began her retirement.
