Saimei Shrine is a shrine located in Saga-Arashiyama. Experience the essence of Ise amid the abundant nature of Saga-Arashiyama.
◇Attractions
・A place connected to Princess Tenshi: In 859, Emperor Montoku's daughter, Princess Tenshi, served as a shrine maiden at Ise Grand Shrine. It is said that this was the site where Amaterasu Omikami was enshrined when she retreated to Saga-Arashiyama. The shrine was founded in this honor.
・Origins from the Tales of Ise: Princess Tenshi is also the inspiration for Saigū, the Saigū who engages in a forbidden love affair with a man believed to be the model for Ariwara no Narihira in the 69th chapter of the Tales of Ise, "The Hunting Messenger."
