Saiho-ji Temple, known as Arashiyama's Moss Temple, is a Rinzai sect temple located in Nishikyo Ward, Kyoto City.
Founded by Gyoki during the Nara period, it was rebuilt in 1339 by Muso Soseki (a Rinzai Zen monk).
Saiho-ji Temple is famous for its beautiful garden, covered with approximately 120 types of moss.
The garden is structured in two levels: the upper level is a dry landscape garden, and the lower level is a strolling garden with a pond at its center (a garden designed for visitors to stroll around the pond).
A particularly distinctive feature is the shape of the pond, which resembles the Chinese character for "heart."
Advance reservations are required to visit, and you can experience a calming experience by copying sutras.
Saiho-ji Temple is also registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as one of the "Cultural Monuments of Ancient Kyoto."
When you visit, be sure to enjoy some time to reflect in the tranquil environment. (^^)
