◇Attractions
・History: Established by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu in 1379 (the first year of the Koryaku era). Yoshimitsu heard in a dream that building a temple would extend one's lifespan, and built the temple to pray for his own longevity.
・Name: Originates from the appearance of a herd of wild deer and the story of the Deer King at Rokuoen, the site of Buddha's first sermon.
・Dry Landscape Garden: Designated a Kyoto City Place of Scenic Beauty under the name "Rokuoin Garden." It features a mokkoku tree and a pair of sal trees over 300 years old.
・Reliquary Hall: The Buddha's Tooth Relic, brought back from Song China by Minamoto no Sanetomo, is enshrined here. The Buddha's Tooth Relic is the tooth that survived Buddha's cremation.
