Shishiku Garden: Hogon-in Temple is famous for its gardens. From spring to early summer, the fresh greenery and moss are stunning, while the autumn foliage is spectacular.


Meaning of the Name: The garden's name, "Shishiku," means "Buddha preaches." It originates from the idea that the roar of a lion intimidates animals, frightening and subduing demons and heretics.


A Famous Garden with a Long History: During the Edo period, it was featured in the "Miyako Rinsen Meisho Zue," an illustrated guide to Kyoto's famous gardens.
