Gion-ji Temple is a Shingon Buddhist temple located in Arashiyama. Its beautiful moss-covered gardens and historic buildings blend seamlessly in the tranquility of the ancient capital, captivating many visitors.
◇Attractions
・The setting of the Tale of the Heike: This famous tragic story tells of Gion, beloved by Taira no Kiyomori, who was banished from the capital after Kiyomori's change of heart, and spent the rest of her life at this temple with her mother and sister.
・Moss Garden: The moss-covered garden changes with the seasons, offering particularly spectacular views during the seasons of fresh greenery and autumn leaves.
・Buddha Statues: The wooden statues of Kiyomori and Gion, believed to have been made in the Kamakura period, are a must-see.

It is a 25-minute walk from Arashiyama Station on the Randen Line, in the heart of the Arashiyama area.
It is also approximately a 35-minute bus ride from our hotel.
