Enrian is a Rinzai sect Tenryuji temple in Saga-Arashiyama. It stands on the former site of Ogura Sanso, where Fujiwara Teika selected the Hyakunin Isshu.
Overview
・Birthplace of the Hyakunin Isshu: The temple grounds offer a glimpse into the world of the Hyakunin Isshu, featuring the "inkstone water" that Teika is said to have used to wash his brushes, stone monuments engraved with poems from the Hyakunin Isshu, and the "Teikazuka" mound, said to be Teika's grave.
・Origin of the name: The word "enri" in Enrian means "to leave this world." Indeed, the high threshold and surrounding trees create a truly secluded space.
