Emperor Gokameyama, Saga-Ogura Mausoleum

Emperor Gokameyama's Saga-Ogura Mausoleum is the tomb of Emperor Gokameyama, located in Saga-Arashiyama. Emperor Gokameyama brought peace to the turbulent Nanboku-cho period.


◇Attractions


・Emperor Gokameyama: Emperor Gokameyama was the 99th emperor and the last emperor of the Southern Court during the Nanboku-cho period. ・Nanboku-cho Period: The Nanboku-cho period was a turbulent period in which the Northern Court, led by the Ashikaga clan, who would later establish the Muromachi shogunate, and the Southern Court, led by the Nitta and Kusunoki clans, fought for supremacy for nearly 60 years after Emperor Go-Daigo moved to Yoshino.


・Ending the Nanboku-cho Period: Emperor Gokameyama reigned from 1383 to 1392. He abdicated to Emperor Go-Komatsu, the sixth emperor of the Northern Court, as the successor to the Southern Court, and is therefore credited with bringing an end to the turmoil of the Nanboku-cho period.
