Hello!
This is The GrandWest Arashiyama.
When we ask our guests about their plans,
many of them say, "I'm going to the Arashiyama bamboo forest."
That's why the image of sightseeing in Kyoto's Arashiyama is so strong: the bamboo forest.
Did you know there's a hidden gem in the Arashiyama bamboo forest?
Today, we'll introduce you to one such spot!
If you search for "bamboo forest" on Google Maps,
the "Sagano Bamboo Forest Walking Trail" will come up. ↓

Located very close to Togetsukyo Bridge,
Most visitors to Arashiyama make a stop at this bamboo forest.
It's a long, continuous bamboo forest,
the sound of the bamboo swaying in the wind is truly mystical.
Known as "Bamboo Forest" in English,
it seems to be a major tourist attraction in Kyoto.
The only drawback is that
there are so many tourists, it can be difficult to take photos...
If you want to photograph the bamboo forest without people,
you'll need to go early in the morning (lol).
(As of September 2020, due to COVID-19, the forest is quiet until around 9:00 AM;
previously, the best time to photograph was around 8:00 AM!)
Actually, there's another bamboo forest in Arashiyama where you can relax without worrying about crowds.
About a 15-minute rental bicycle ride from Togetsukyo Bridge in Arashiyama,
there's a temple called Adashino Nenbutsu-ji Temple.

The area around Adashi-no-Nenbutsu-ji Temple was once a burial site.
Stone Buddha statues and stone pagodas have been erected as graves for those buried in this area.
The path up is a gentle slope from partway up,
The path back is downhill for a smooth return,
We recommend renting a bicycle.
Our hotel guests can rent bicycles for free for up to two hours.
We also have small bicycles for children and bikes with child seats,
Please feel free to ask if you would like to use one.
This bamboo grove, located deep within Adashi-no-Nenbutsu,
is a hidden gem of Arashiyama!

The number of tourists here is generally lower than the area around Togetsukyo Bridge,
This is a very quiet temple where time passes slowly.
The bamboo forest itself is a short walk up a flight of stairs to the graveyard.
It seems that there are few visitors who come specifically to see the bamboo forest,
so you can relax and take photos.

As we've already mentioned, Adashino Nenbutsuji Temple is home to many stone Buddha statues,
which gives it a different atmosphere than most temples.

When it comes to Arashiyama, many people stop by the Togetsukyo Bridge area.
But if you want to experience a deeper side of Arashiyama, we recommend heading to the Adashino Nenbutsu-ji Temple area.
It's quieter than the area around the station,
but you'll feel the slower pace of Kyoto.
If you're particularly interested in taking photos of bamboo forests,
this bamboo forest offers a better angle for beautiful shots,
and fewer passersby make it a recommended spot.
Why not stop by Adashino Nenbutsu-ji Temple when you're sightseeing in Arashiyama?
