For hundreds of years, Arashiyama has been the tranquil retreat for the nobles of Kyoto. Recently, Arashiyama has become a place where locals and tourists come to get away from the bustling city life and unwind.

We wanted to create a place that reflected the quiet and relaxing atmosphere that Arashiyama symbolizes, so we renovated a building that was a stone's throw away from the center of the busy tourist area. The building was a hub where locals would come to enjoy the world-famous "Gozan no Okuribi (or Daimonji)" summer festival, where bonfires in the shape of massive Japanese characters are set ablaze on five mountains, from the rooftop.

The GrandWest Arashiyama opened as a hotel on September 1st, 2017, not only to serve the travelers looking for the perfect place to settle in for the night, but also to be a familiar place for the locals to visit and enjoy company. Our aim is to provide the ideal environment where all our guests can decompress and fully enjoy Arashiyama.

Sincerely,

Miya Matsushita
