Our Hotel

For hundreds of years, Arashiyama has been the tranquil retreat for the nobles of Kyoto. Recently, Arashiyama has become a place where locals and tourists come to get away from the bustling city life and unwind.

We wanted to create a place that reflected the quiet and relaxing atmosphere that Arashiyama symbolizes, so we renovated a building that was a stone's throw away from the center of the busy tourist area. The building was a hub where locals would come to enjoy the world-famous "Gozan no Okuribi (or Daimonji)" summer festival, where bonfires in the shape of massive Japanese characters are set ablaze on five mountains, from the rooftop.

The GrandWest Arashiyama opened as a hotel on September 1st, 2017, not only to serve the travelers looking for the perfect place to settle in for the night, but also to be a familiar place for the locals to visit and enjoy company. Our aim is to provide the ideal environment where all our guests can decompress and fully enjoy Arashiyama.

Our hotel was designed to seamlessly blend the traditional and modern aspects of Japan with attention to detail, and the lobby is no exception. There's plenty of space for the whole family on our welcoming, comfortable sofas. The custom-built table has tatami sewn into the center to fuse traditional Japan with modern Japan, with power outlets by your feet to recharge all your modern-day devices.

This space is perfect to plan your day of sightseeing or to chat with other guests and our staff during the day. At night, you can quietly read a book or browse the internet on the complimentary iPads while sipping a cup of coffee.

The lights in the front lobby are designed just like a bamboo tea whisk seen in traditional Japanese tea-making, known as a "chasen" in Japanese. The light filters through the bamboo and creates a gentle and calming atmosphere.

The front lobby is open 24 hours for our guests to grab freshly ground coffee or espresso from our premium espresso machine. Hot cocoa, caffè lattes, matcha lattes, and black/green teas are also available. We also provide iced tea and ice water infused with lemon during the summer months, a refreshing way to cool down after a long day of sightseeing.

Rooftop Terrace

Our rooftop terrace is the best place to see the surrounding mountains of Arashiyama. Since we're not too far from the busy city area, it's a great place to take in the morning sky or see the stars at night. You can even see two of the burning characters from the Daimonji Festival from our rooftop where we hold an event every year.

The rooftop terrace is a great way to see Arashiyama from a different perspective and is open to all our guests.

The GrandWest Arashiyamaの屋上テント

Our hotel has 10 spacious en suite rooms that have been refurbished from family-size apartments, so there's plenty of space to unpack and settle in.

After a long day of seeing all the wonderful sights in Arashiyama and the surrounding Kyoto area, you'll have your own private space to relax and unwind, as if you were at home.

Your room will be the perfect place to plan your next day out with family or friends and still have room for the kids to play.
